Safety

RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE USER OF THESE PRODUCTS.  D & A Wire Rope assumes no responsibility for the use or misapplication of any product sold.  All products are sold with the understanding that the purchaser is thoroughly familiar with the correct application for which they were intended.   Any product can become hazardous if used by a careless operator.  Always adhere to industry standards and regulations.

ANY PRODUCT WILL BREAK IF ABUSED, MISUSED OR OVERUSED.  The safety of a product depends primarily upon the remaining strength.  No product can keep operating at its rated capacity indefinitely.   All products can sustain damage from continued use, misuse, and environmental factors.

SAFE OPERATION DEPENDS ON SAFE OPERATING PRACTICES.  It would be impossible to list all the dangers and misapplication of the products listed here.  Please refer to your safe practice procedures and industry standards and regulations, as they will more accurately represent your specific application.  The most common hazards associated with the use of these products are outlined below:

  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit
  • The Working Load Limit (WLL) is the maximum load which should ever be applied to the product even when the product is new and the load is evenly applied.
  • Match components properly
  • All rigging components (shackles, links, hooks, etc.) must be properly installed and have a WLL that is matched to the rigging with which they are used.
  • Avoid side loading
  • A horizontal side force applied to the lifted load rigging can damage the rigging and cause a reduced Working Load Limit.
  • Avoid shock loads
  • Any rapid change of movement such as jerking, swinging, or impacting the load or sudden release of tension could overload the sling and cause it to fall.
  • Inspect products regularly
  • Products should be inspected by qualified personnel before each use.  No product can keep operating at its rated capacity indefinitely.
  • Destroy items that have been judged defective
  • Defective items are no longer safe for use and should be destroyed to avoid additional use.
  • Do not operate a load over people
  • Keep out from under a raised load
  • Do not ride on loads
